India accounts for 80%of total guar produced in the world .The export demand from India is 2 lakh tonnes and the domestic demand is around 30,000 tonnes. About 75% of the guar gum and its derivatives produced in India are transported to USA and European countries. Approximately, 90 percentage of the guar crop is used for the production of guar gum (31%) and the rest for culinary purpose (37%) and cattle feed (29%). Guar, being a region specific crop is largely grown in India. Unlike other agricultural commodities, guar seed is relatively less perishable. As a result, it is subjected to large scale stocking when the market is reeling under low price for guar gum production.
